, Welcome to the Ely Open Gardens Website.
My name is Ken Ellis, and I am a gardener. I co ordinate the Ely Open Gardens group of the National Garden Scheme. The NGS is a national scheme, dedicated to raising money for charities. This is our local site, run by me, with links to take you to pages that are relevant to us on the NGS national website. I would encourage you to take a look at the national site. If you're taking a break somewhere, you can see if there are any gardens open that you could visit. Often, you would be able to have access to a garden that is normally private. It's amazing what you can find.
Open Garden Day 2024 is...
Sunday, 2nd June.
So, the clock is beginning to run. Actually, for those of us who are opening this year, it began last year,. It takes a while to prepare a garden! Do come and support us; we're doing it to raise money for a range of charities, some well known, and others that you may never have heard of.
The gardens themselves are a a range, from large to small. You'll find ideas that you can use in your garden, or even small pot, get a chance to talk to the gardeners and either share advice and garden talk, or to pick their brains about something. Some gardens will have added attractions, like an amiable tortoise, the odd jigsaw to add some pieces to or the occasional steam engine rumbling by.
the Methodist Church in Chapel Street, conveniently situated between two of the gardens and with access to St. Mary's Street Car Park, are offering hot drinks and cake, as are two of the gardens.
Information about the gardens can be found on the NGS website 'find a garden' page by clicking here, and tickets may be booked directly from here, or via the link on the NGS site. Entry prices are £10 per adult, with under 16s free, and cover all gardens. Pictures of last year's open garden, which includes photos of gardens showing this year, are available on the gallery page.
Would you be like to join us and share your garden with others?
If you live in Ely, and wish to join us, you would be very welcome. Alternatively, do you know of someone with a garden that you could suggest? We welcome gardens of all size and type We're particularly looking for gardens in new properties, as we don't have anyone yet to represent this part of the Ely community. Don't be shy; we're just people with a joyful interest in gardening and a wish to share it with others. If you don't think that your garden is big enough, why not join with your neighbours and enter yourselves as one entry? We'd love to see how creative people can get in relatively small places, both in gardens and shared areas.
Have a look at this page for a slightly whimsical look at what it's like to open your garden. If you want a chat, get in touch with me via the link below.
I hope that you enjoy your visit to our site. If you want to contact us, please click here.
